New homeless accommodation gets £3,000 kick start!

Lorica St Patrick’s kick starts fundraising campaign on March 17th

Brighton and Hove homelessness charity Lorica St Patrick’s marked its namesake day [Saturday 17 March] by raising £3,000 towards its unique emergency nightshelter accommodation concept – MiPods®.

The charity unveiled the first five MiPods® which were sponsored by The Silver Lady Fund and staged a giant bike race to launch the fundraising campaign for a further 20.

Father Alan said: “We are tremendously grateful to the Silver Lady Fund for helping us to fund the first five MiPod® units and to Thomas Eggar who provided sponsorship for the ‘Big Bike Challenge’.

“This really is the start of a new future for our night shelter and one which we’re confident will set the standard for emergency accommodation throughout the country. We are hoping to raise a total of approximately £100,000 this year to purchase and install a further 20 units which will mean we can continue to offer the best possible care for the many homeless needing help in our city.  Obviously this is an ambitious target so we are urging the Brighton and Hove community to visit us, view the concept and help us raise money in any way it can.”

The MiPod® was developed in consultation with Lorica St Patrick’s residents, volunteers and supporters in Brighton and Hove to provide the best possible temporary living accommodation for homeless people. The concept has the potential to transform emergency night shelter provision for both men and women and provides them with individual privacy and security.
